“La natura non è una risorsa da sfruttare, ma un’entità costituita da più esseri con cui interagire“. (da “Instrumentum laboris”, documento di preparazione al Sinodo 2019). Il pensiero di Papa Francesco mi aveva davvero colpito; si accordava con riflessioni che già avevo fatto sulla rete che ci unisce, e quindi la grande interconnessione di ogni elemento del mondo vegetale, animale e umano.
Fiumi e mari ne fanno parte naturalmente; così, quando Legambiente mi ha interpellato per documentare il progetto Zero Plastica in Mare, che con il sostegno di BNL Bnp Paribas partiva in tale direzione, ho aderito convintamente.
Liberare mari e fiumi da tonnellate di plastica, contrastando così il marine litter (rifiuti in mare) è un’emergenza mondiale, ma se ciascuno fa la sua parte – per primi governi e imprese – si può contrastare con successo il fenomeno. Esistono già risultati soddisfacenti al riguardo.
L’opera di ripulitura, effettuata da volontari e pescatori, è importantissima anche per sensibilizzare l’opinione pubblica a seguirne l’esempio.
Il 2 dicembre 2019 il progetto è ufficialmente iniziato.
Dal 3 al 6 agosto 2019 parto dunque per Scario (SA) dove, insieme a giovani volontari, documenterò la loro attività di monitoraggio delle microplastiche, pulizia del fiume Volturno e del mare meraviglioso in cui sfocia.
Il 6 novembre 2019 sono a Porto Garibaldi (FE), per il progetto Fishing for litter, insieme ai pescatori. Durante la battuta di pesca notturna sono raccolti rifiuti di tipologia diversa, che successivamente vengono catalogati dai volontari di Legambiente per essere poi smaltiti in modo corretto.
Sia con i volontari che con i pescatori, il clima di empatia che si crea è molto bello; da entrambe le parti c’è la consapevolezza di fare qualcosa di buono per l’ambiente. E, nonostante la fatica, grande è anche il piacere di condividere con semplicità momenti insieme.

The thought of Pope Francis had really struck me; he agreed with reflections that I had already made on the network that unites us, and therefore the great interconnection of every element of the plant, animal and human world. Rivers and seas are naturally part of it; so, when Legambiente asked me to document the Zero Plastic in the Sea project, which with the support of BNL Bnp Paribas was starting in this direction, I joined with conviction. Freeing seas and rivers from tons of plastic, thus combating marine litter (waste at sea) is a global emergency, but if everyone does their part – first of all governments and businesses – the phenomenon can be successfully countered. There are already satisfactory results in this regard. The cleaning work, carried out by volunteers and fishermen, is also very important to raise public awareness to follow their example. On 2 December 2019 the project officially started. From 3 to 6 August 2019 I leave for Scario (SA) where, together with young volunteers, I will document their activity of monitoring microplastics, cleaning the Volturno river and the wonderful sea into which it flows. On 6 November 2019 I am in Porto Garibaldi (FE), for the Fishing for litter project, together with the fishermen. During the night fishing trip, different types of waste are collected, which are subsequently cataloged by the Legambiente volunteers to be disposed of correctly. Both with the volunteers and with the fishermen, the climate of empathy that is created is very beautiful; on both sides there is an awareness of doing something good for the environment. And, despite the effort, great is also the pleasure of sharing moments together with simplicity.
